FAT SPOON CAFE

FAT SPOON CAFE
[fat-spoon cafe]
Halal

This restaurant was the first artsy fartsy place I've ever been to. It sparked my interest in exploring new places to dine in! So this is a special feature, also because one of my favourite dishes is from this place! It's also their signature dish!

Fat Spoon from the outside! It's very humble and charming. A pretty popular place for the people of Uptown Damansara to chill in. It's a bit difficult to find parking during busy hours though, since it's Uptown after all. I suggest you go on weekends when offices are closed! More chances of getting parking!

View from my seat. You can see the menu on the board up there!

Here's the little drinks counter and cashier. You can also have a look at whatever desserts are available.

I only go to Fat Spoon for one particular dish that they serve, which is the Spicy Beef Macaroni Soup (RM11.90). I know, it's kinda strange, eating beef soup with macaroni, but it's super nice! It's spicy and filled with chunks of ground beef! There's hints coriander inside so those of you who seem to despise coriander, prepare yourself.

I had a cup of mocha afterwards to quench my caffeine thirst. The mocha was so-so, but gotta give them props for the coffee art. Really cute! Sorry, I don't remember the price of the mocha but I'm very sure it's less than RM10.

DETAILS :

I like their use of normal ... could I say "local" materials? Haha. Local in a sense that, you could find those pots and pans, the little gate partition and even the cloth they use at any Malaysian kampung house! It's charming and very cute.

Over all, the food was good. I really like the Spicy Macaroni Soup and have always been going back just for that. The ambiance is pleasant and service was satisfactory. Waiters and managers were very attentive but could be friendlier with guest. Still a place worth visiting!

COFFEA COFFEE by Timothy

COFFEA COFFEE by Timothy

SHORT UPDATE! Went over to Bangsar the other day for a bit with my bestie. We stopped by this charming looking cafe called Coffea Coffee! Best decision ever! It was a cute cafe with good coffee and good service!

What the outside looks like! Taken from BangsarBabe's website (because again, I forgot to take a photo myself). Credits to BangsarBabe! :)

I absolutely adore the modern design of this cafe! The play of raw materials is wonderful! Concrete textures and raw timber go very nicely together!

The view of the entrance! Look at those timber textured walls! Gorgeous details!

Bestie ordered a Green Tea Latte whereas I ordered a Vanilla Latte! Super delicious and smooth. Not too sweet either! Loved it! Price ranges from RM11 - RM20.

Over all, super loved this cafe. Bestie and I stayed there's for quite a while, chit chatting and sipping on our coffee. The environment was great and the baristas/waiters were all really friendly! Greeted us with smiles and well wishes! Would definitely go back there for a cup of coffee whenever I'm in Bangsar!

MR. AND MS. CAFE

MR. AND MS. CAFE
[mis-ter and mis]
Halal

HI HI! Very sorry for the lack of updates lately. I've been so busy with studies. But I'm back! Here with a SHORT UPDATE about Mr. and Ms. Cafe in Oasis Ara Damansara! :D Bestie and I wanted to go for a snack and coffee break, so we decided to try out this cafe!

Photo taken from their official FB page. This is what the entrance looks like!

A photo summary of the whole cafe! Left side is a cute little corner with cushions; I suppose it caters to families with kids cause there's room to play there. Right side is normal seating area. Simple and comfy cafe.

Bestie and I snacked on a "Mr. and Ms." Caesar Salad (RM17.90) and "Mr. and Ms." Bruschetta Platter (RM16.90). The salad was nothing special, but you can't go wrong with Caesar Salad, right? The bruschetta was pretty good and really filling! I was pleasantly surprised!

For dessert, we had some coffee and pancakes! YUM! It looks good right? That's because it WAS GOOD! Bestie had a latte (RM8, I think) and I had a cappucino (RM8). Sorry to say, but I don't remember the price of the pancakes but the price range of the cafe is from RM10 - RM25; the pancakes were RM20++ if not mistaken. It was pretty good! We were so happy after eating it all! SUPER YUM.

Over all, a nice experience. Definitely a cute place to go to when you want to catch up with your friends. I think it's best to go for their desserts! The dessert portion is good for sharing with friends! But their food could be better.

ALEXIS BSC

ALEXIS BSC
[ah-lek-sis BSC]
Halal; serves alcohol

My family and I have always been fans of Alexis, ever since it opened many years ago! We decided to go over there for my mom's birthday dinner and I'm pleased to say that Alexis still hasn't failed me!

Here's the entrance to the restaurant! Pretty quaint. You can already see from the outside that the restaurant has nice interior design (at least to me), and it kind of draws you in.

View from my seat. The restaurant is fairly big. There's a lot of room, especially for private functions. There's a bar area at the back too; assuming it's for the live performances they tend to have on weekends. They have a lot of decorative elements! The white shelves and cute light bulbs; kind of gives the place a very modern edge. And I kind of like how they exposed the ceiling; it goes well with everything.

This was the private space that my family and I sat nearby to. This space is for functions like birthdays and etc; you can make reservations for big pax and book this space!

Here's are the desserts! By this time, I was already eyeing the pavlova! Looks so yummy!

Here's a peek into the menu. Food is a tad pricey but I can't complain cause most of the food are delicious! Haha. This restaurant is obviously a special-occasion type of place.

I ordered the Pappardelle with meatballs (RM38) and a pot of hot mango tea. It was VERY filling; I felt bad that I couldn't finish everything! But I forced myself to engulf all the meatballs. Incredible portion for you big eaters out there! The mango tea; nothing to complain about. They provide honey for a healthier alternative to sugar, if you're interested! :)

As for dessert, we ordered a slice of pavlova (mixed berries meringue cake) and a slice of this very rich chocolate cake. I like the pavlova more because personally, refreshing cakes are the BEST. But the chocolate cake was also pretty delicious though it's quite a mouthful! For you chocolate lovers, this is the cake for you! It's not too sweet either so you won't feel sick of the taste while eating it.

Overall, our experience in Alexis was good. The service was great, ambiance was pretty nice to; I would say a nice place for you to dress up for dinner because people who eat there seem very snazzy and stylish (it IS Bangsar after all), and the food was satisfying! I especially loved the desserts! They were definitely the highlights of the night!

KOMUGI CAFE

KOMUGI CAFE
[ko-moo-jee ka-fey]
Halal

I happen to have stumbled upon this adorable cafe in Paradigm, while window shopping with my bff. It's a Japanese cafe which sells food, coffee, desserts, pastries and bread! It got so excited when I saw their displays! SO MUCH SWEETS! I have a sweet tooth so desserts are always a favourite.

This is what you see before you are indulged with many pretty displays of desserts!

These are the first things I saw! CAKES! They look so pretty! I was trying to hard to control myself from over-spending.

They have macarons, cheese cake and pudding too! This got me extra excited!

View from my seat. I love the floor tiles! The 3-dimensional feel to it kind of makes the cafe stand out really well in the mall.

I ordered the Green Tea pudding (RM5.50) which was really delicious and creamy! Texture is similar to caramel pudding but the green tea flavour was very strong and nice! And also 3 macarons (RM4 each). Yellow : Mango, Black : Black Plantine and Turqoise : Blue Cacao. A little expensive for me, but luckily the macarons were VERY good and size was relatively big. Nice in texture, crunchy surface but chewy insides, which is how macarons should be like! My favourite is the Blue Cacao! Super good!

As for coffee, bff ordered a Vanilla latte (the one with Hello Kitty) whereas I ordered a Hazelnut Latte. The Hazelnut Latte was really good! So smooth and not too sweet! It was a refreshing cup of coffee! Loved it! Both drinks at RM11.90 each!

Here's a delicious close up of the latte art!

Here is the coffee station! You can choose to order you coffee to-go from here!

I bought the original flavoured pudding and Hajuku Cheesecakes to bring back home! I can't help but feel happy while eating these two. The pudding is very similar to caramel pudding, it even has the caramel at the bottom of the tub. Texture is nice and smooth; a little egg-y so if most of you don't like that flavour then I'm not too sure if you will like this. The cheesecakes on the other hand, texture is like mousse, very soft and easy to eat. Though it's very small, it's very very filling! Not too sweet which I like. Highly recommended!

DETAILS :

I would like to point out that this cafe's logo is extremely cute and simple! I like how the Japanese keep things minimal. Such a memorable statement piece.

I would say, one of my favourite dessert places! How can you not love Japanese desserts right? I absolutely love it! And would go back many many times!

BAD BOY COOKS

BAD BOY COOKS
[bad-boi-kook-ss]
Halal; Serves alcohol

If you're looking for cheap, Western food, this is the best place to be at! For you penny pinchers especially, it's a great place to save some money and to have very filling and pretty delicious Western food for a fraction of the price.

This place is adorable eyh! The concept of the restaurant is a typical American diner, with checkered board tiled floors and a pop of red from the cushioned seats and old-fashion outdoor furniture. Super-like!

You can see the menu from the counter, some of the snacks and desserts on display (mostly their yummy cookies) and the alcohol that they serve too! Don't you think the colours of the restaurant suit the theme really well? Smart, using the colour red; since red stimulates hunger.

Here's the menu. As you can see, A LOT of the food are only at 1-digit prices! So insane! I got so excited when I saw how cheap the food is! The best is the section of the menu (on the bottom part of the photo), you can order anything you want, add RM1 and you get a drink! Choices of Ice Lime Tea, Ice Green Tea and Ice Lime Juice! So awesome!

My bff ordered the Grilled Fish and Prawns (RM12) with Pomodoro sauce. It comes with coleslaw and chunky fries! It was a pretty good meal, nothing super special but I suppose the portion was well worth the cost.

My other friend only ordered a snack and coffee! Bad Boy Fries (RM4) and a Cappucino (RM5). I tried the coffee and it was pretty good! Surprisingly good and cheap!

I had the Super BB, which was the most expensive hot dog dish on their menu (RM18). The hot dog consisted of a chicken sausage, beef bacon, cheese, grilled onions, pomodoro sauce and a nice fried egg! Onion rings and chunky fries came as side dishes! Oh my goodness was this filling and pretty scrumptious too! The calories I've engulfed from this dish was too darn high! Haha. But I really liked it. It was super filling. A very American dish, I would say. Also, I had a cup of mocha (RM6). Really not bad but of course, could be nicer. Really big serving of mocha though!

For dessert, my friends and I shared the signature Bad Boy Cooks dessert, which is BAD BOY MADNESS (RM19). It was a behemoth of a dessert! As you can see from the photo above, this dish consist of EVERYTHING from the dessert menu! It was REALLY sinful and good but wow, very filling and very difficult to finish! I suggest sharing this amongst 5 - 8 people! There was SO MUCH. But I loved it! I especially loved the cookie, ice cream, chocolate chip, banana and whipped cream TOGETHER. So good!

Over all, a pretty nice place to eat in. I enjoyed the food even though it was, in my honest opinion, only so-so, but for the price, it was really worth it. My favourite was of course, the dessert! Really good! But you'll feel so guilty after eating it! So much sugar and chocolate! But once in a while, it's okay to indulge, right? Haha. I highly recommend this restaurant, if you wish to have a filling meal that won't burn a hole in your wallet.

MORI

MORI
[mo-ree]
Non-Halal; Serves pork

Bff and I decided to go try this new Japanese place called Mori Japanese Restaurant at Subang Avenue. This place is relatively new and not bad, if I do say so myself. I was too careless and hungry to remember to take photo of the facade (I'm so sorry :[ ) but just for your information, this Mori restaurant is next to Chilla Cup and Old Town White Coffee in Subang Avenue, facing the main road. It's actually very easily seen from the road when you drive by!

This is what it looks like inside! I actually really like the vibe of the restaurant! I like the Japanese deco that they used; the curtains, posters and all.

The opposite side with more seating areas - this area is more normal, but they did put up cute Japanese graphic pictures up as minimalist deco. Nice!

Here's the cashier area. Wondering if those bottles of sake are real.

Here's part of the menu! On the left is the lunch set that they offer at the restaurant and on the right, some of the sets that they offer throughout opening hours. It's quite pricey but I assume the portion is filling enough!

Bff ordered spicy ramen! The portion was really big (she couldn't finish it). The soup was pretty good but quite spicy. The type of spiciness is like, slap-you-in-the-face type of spicy. Haha! Kind of leaves you with a spicy-ZING at the back of your throat (if you can understand what I mean). This dish was a bit priceyl about RM20+

Close up of the spicy ramen.

I ordered the Salmon Rice set! I think this set is really worth it! RM16 and it comes with Japanese fried rice mixed with salmon, egg and seaweed, tofu with soy sauce, miso soup, salad, pickled vegetable, watermelon and banana! VERY filling. I couldn't finish my rice so I packed it up to have for supper. It was really tasty! I loved the rice!

DETAILS :
The restaurant is really cute on the inside. You wouldn't expect it to look inviting when you see it from the outside (also because Subang Avenue is practically abandoned). The decorations are really very nice! Look at the samurai posters! Too pretty! Also, they also serve sushi and have seating areas near the sushi bar. I have yet to try their sushi though.

So far, the food I managed to try is pretty alright; just a little on the pricey side; not too sure if the food is worth the price, seeing as the restaurant is not very known, but once in a while it's okay. The service was decent and the restaurant itself is quite nice. It's a little sad that it's in a place like Subang Avenue though, but still worth a try. I hope it get more popular because it deserves some recognition.
